From Port Tauranga at the base of Mauao (Mount Maunganui) we travel into the countryside and up to the Pāpāmoa Hills Cultural Heritage Regional Park for panoramic views over Tauranga and historically significant pā sites (traditional Māori fortresses), we may even sing you a Māori waiata (song)...
Travelling inland to the Kaimai-Mamaku Forest park we visit the iconic McLaren Falls to marvel at this ancient lava flow geology, with interesting pothol formations carved out of the bedrock. At picturesque McLaren Falls Park we spend some time to relax and take in the scenery and wildlife at Lake McLaren, learn about the history of the area, explore the native forrest and enjoy a break for some tasty treats at the Falls Cafe overlooking the lake.
Returning to Tauranga via the back-roads we travel through rural countryside past sheep and beef farms and kiwifruit and avocado orchards, enjoying stunning views back towards Tauranga from the West on our way back to Port Tauranga Cruise Terminal.
A great outing that takes in a variety of Tauranga's natural, cultural & historical highlights.
